I was just thinking. I would occasionally get guys in with squeaky brake pads. Of all the same bike brand out there, the same pad material on that same production bike, why are not the other pads squeaking?
I figure it has to be the person's right hand squeeze. They seem to bring on a unique type of harmonic like you mention the 'juddering' grab to the pads.
Once that pad was in my hand, I went looking for a sidewalk made out of cement. I took that smooth finish off, reinstalled it with the dust still on the pad. I would then go out: Hammer on the front lever where I would almost skid the front wheel, be in 2nd and just hammer down more brake and apply move cable opening.
I'd put a "cook" in the pad and disc with just a few seconds of this action. I'd unload, run up to cool the discs and pads, then hammer down on the brakes and apply cable again. This may be about 3 or 4 times I do these short blips.
Did the dust cause any sound? Guy never came back. Did the bead-in show it was not the brake pad? Guy never came back.
